Hi everyone.I'm making buying plans for my library (a little late) and have been thinking that a discussion about which books we loved might help everyone. So, I will start it off - mine is a secondary list. And not in order of most lovedness! Monsters of Men by Patrick Ness was right up there for me Will Grayson Will Grayson by John Green Nation by Terry Pratchett - which I have to buy several copies of because the boys loved it A small free kiss in the dark by Glenda Millard Leviathan by Scott Westerfield Waltz with Bashir by Ari Fulman Johnny Bunko by Daniel Pink - every library needs this for their Careers section (IMHO) Under the dome by Stephen King Trash by Andy Mulligan Surrender by Sonya Hartnett Shipbreaker by Paolo Bacigalulpi The Holly Black Chronicles by Lara Black Started Early Took My Dog by Kate Atkinson - our staff love it and all her others A complicated kindness by Miriam Towes - if I had girls here I would buy this for them to read. The Brides Farewell by Meg Rosoff - one of my fave writers and again with the if I had girls comment above There were lots more. My reading is all on my personal blog, link on my profile page. Anybody else want to play? Who is next? Do you find this valuable?

I'm just doing adult/YA for this list:Room, Emma Donoghue - don't be put off by the annoying child language at the beginning, a book that stays with you emotionally. Scat, Carl Hiaasen - more environmental causes with humour, age level could be yr 7/8 to adult Eating things on sticks, Anne Fine, very very funny, looks yr 5-6 but I think it is more Yr 8-10 because of the level of humour The hut builder, Laurence Fearnley, wonderful evocation of place[Central Otago] and maturing of a male character, butcher, mountaineering, poetry, writing. The great house, N. Krauss, the stories and people associated with a piece of furniture, a writing desk, spread of time. I'll think of more later. Isn't it Miriam Toewes Bridget? anything by her is brilliant. Do you find this valuable? |
