Not new information - but- when I moved all the graphic books together and labelled them as such - there was a zooming and buzzing to that area - even more so than to the formerly busy area where sets of Beast Quest, Capt Underpants are shelved. I am now making an effort to find graphics for girls.

We have had a Book Club running in the Library for the past two years for Year 7-13. Ours is run by the young adult librarian from our local library. This has been really effective. I was able to source prizes for the students. The students posted book reviews on line, completed quizzes and tried to read as many books as they could. Our aim was to build up student's reading mileage and forge links with the public library. Our students can't wait for it to start again next year.

We have a Book Club, called The BookGang. We met this year on Tuesdays at lunchtime. We originally had cake each time which the guys made, on a roster. We have killed the cake, except for occasionally now because membership was burgeoning out of control. The guys love it, I find it stressful but entertaining. Next year we hope to divide into Junior and Senior, but this brings with it a bunch of issues about book access, as many of our juniors are reading quite advanced books and some of the seniors are reading quite easy books. Sigh. The BookGang get access to all the new books first, and get to come shopping, choose books from lists, and help ordering new books. They contribute to the blog, they generally see the library as their second home. They are awesome. We go to movie nights, we have screenings at school of movies and we have a good time. And their Mums can bake fabulous cakes!

Hi, we locked this page because it was becoming a bit overwhelmed and messy, we didn't like the look or feel of it, so we threw our hands in the virtual air. The lists could just go on and on. We thought there must be a better way but have't been back to tidy up yet. We will do that at some point but in the meantime it is locked while we get our heads around a new way to do things. You are a gem for keeping on keeping on on here! :)

Could we add displacement as a theme please. Our English department has used this theme for the last couple of years. I struggle sometimes to get enough titles for the students. I am reading "Between shades of Gray" by Ruta Sepetys which is a great novel for displacement and a fantastic read.

Hi Bridget Thanks for that. I have a few titles and am sure I have a lot more on the shelves. Hopefully the collective wisdom of the listserv will give me plenty more. I look forward to catching up at the conference.

The Super DC Heroes series, published by Stone Arch Books, is proving very popular. The graphics are excellent, the words a good size and well spaced, and of course the boys enjoy reading about super heroes!

The day was a great success with 30 registrations. Vince Collins was amazing. With a few simple materials he made some dynamically simple displays that even the artistically challenged, like me, can achieve. I think everyone went away full of enthusiasm and ready to put into practice what they had been shown.
